A Message from your Council President
By Beth Ford
It is that time of year again. Did we not just finish 2017? How did 2018 pass so quickly? It is a logical time to consider all the gifts that we were given in 2018 and how we shared those gifts. It is, also, the time to think about how we can better serve God in 2019.
In 2018, our Messiah family grew. When it could have been a temptation to sit back and feel sorry for ourselves, no one gave in to that as a possibility. We became more welcoming. The Invite Team set a wonderful example and showed us how to share our love. Hosting Pride Mass here was a highlight of the year. The Brothers at Messiah found new ways to go out into the world by caring for the needs of many of our neighbors and by forging a relationship with Community Schools. We worshiped well surrounded by talented musicians and thoughtful sermons. We had opportunities to learn and discuss in Sunday School. We studied the proposed Women and Justice social statement with other ELCA congregations. Many in the community joined our Caring for the Caregiver retreat.
How will 2019 look? It depends on us, and it should be great. Guidance for us can be found in the Second Reading from Colossians for December 30: “As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience… just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all clothe yourselves with love…And be thankful.”
