Weekly Minute with Pastor Susan

Dear ones, I pray that you are all staying well and avoiding high risk places and activities as we move into our fifth month of this new, crazy life I’ve begun calling “Covid-Chaos 2020.” For many (if not most) of us this has added a layer of stress to our already complex lives. We know that intermittent stress can be good for us (that’s another article) but when it becomes chronic it can affect all aspects of our health. So please remember to do the things that keep you grounded in life......

Opportunity to Help a New Ministry

We hope the Facebook-streamed worship services have been meaningful to you.  We would like to invite those who can to consider making a special gift designated for “Worship Committee – E-Service.” Through many conversations, we believe this to be an important and effective ministry that allows us to reach out to some who have not been able to participate in worship, as well as others who are new to our community. We hope to continue producing online services even after we resume in-person worship.  Your special gift will enable us to improve......

Weekly Minute from Pastor Susan

We had a great town hall meeting on Sunday, June 21st via Zoom. I’m glad so many were able to participate. We reviewed the current draft of our re-opening worship plan and took questions and suggestions. If you were unable to attend, there is a recording of the meeting and you may find it here: TOWN HALL MEETING RECORDED ON SUNDAY, JUNE 21, 2020 Several points were made that the team had not considered, and we are grateful for the suggestions for managing the things that we have not yet clarified in the......

A Note from the Director of Music

One of the things I like about Messiah Lutheran Church is our focus on diversity, whether it’s about championing women in roles of leadership and pastors, reaching out in acceptance and love towards the LGBTQ+ community or having an open door for people of color. But, we are still predominately a congregation of western European roots. As you have read and heard, we will be commemorating the shooting at the Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, SC five years ago. Your pastor and I have had long discussions about the choice of music......

Weekly Minute from Pastor Susan

Dear ones, This has been a difficult week for many of us. It’s hard enough to continue with the restrictions imposed by Covid-19, and adding the horrifying violence of these past days is almost overwhelming. Please know that I am praying for all of you and for all who have been treated unjustly in our world. Please pray for all who grieve this week, and for all the heroes that face danger on the behalf of others. Pray for all whose lives have been scarred by racism and other forms of hatred......

Creative Worship Arts

Joan McGinnis, Director of Music Throughout the centuries, people have worshipped in many different places. These include deserts, along side rivers, in the catacombs and prisons of Rome and in great cathedrals. Each space brings something special to those who are there, whether it be the grandeur of the open sky, the quiet singing in a cave or the booming organ of a large church. At Messiah, we continue the practice of using our worship spaces in ways that share the gospel, allow for meditation and lift our hearts and minds in......
