Red Apple with Heart carved in it, stethescope

Hello again! This past week, we had an OWLs Zoom meeting on good neighbor practices in COVID-19 and racism. Wonderful discussion and shared stories resulted. Pastor Susan and I attended a webinar this week from the Southeastern Synod on Senior Care in the midst of COVID-19. I will be sending the recording out to the OWLS members in the Parish Nurse News this week. The webinar featured speakers from the CDC, a counselor who specializes in gerontology, and a parish/faith community nurse. I continue to monitor and track COVID-19 across our county,......

A Note from the Church Office

This week we received $140 in KARM gift cards  thanks to your donations and volunteerism at local KARM Stores. Thank you! Messiah shares these cards with our neighbors in need who stop by and are in need of a hand up. This is the time of year when our homeless friends start transitioning their belonging from the heavier garb of the winter/spring and start seeking cooler clothing. So, as you can imagine, the gift cards come in very handy for them to be able to make that switch. Thank you for making......

A Message from Your Council President

Beth Ford, 2019 Council President It took Samuel three times, but he finally knew that it was the voice of God calling him. Samuel loved and obeyed God, but the first thing that he had to do was listen and hear. The story of the little boy Samuel has been persistently in my mind as we move through our interim time together. The most important question that we pray to be able to answer is “What is God calling us to do?” Like Samuel, we love God, and we want to be......

Messiah Enters the Digital Media Age

Submitted by Laura Nutzell, Social Media Coordinator Years ago when I was kid, I remember getting the mail for Mom. Once a month I’d see the brightly colored pages of the “Messiah Messenger” in the mailbox. Mom would read the entire newsletter, and put the calendar page on the fridge. But with time and technology, we moved to email, and used the print version less. (But until the day the she passed away, Mom always put the Messenger calendar page on the fridge. ❤️) When we are ready to call a new......

A Message from your Council President

By: Beth Ford, 2018 Council President  Sometimes I wait late in the year before I do what many people do at the first of the year when it is resolution time. I just do not always have time to spend in self examination in the middle of the holidays, the end of the semester, regular work, and the general busyness of December and January. This year that self reflection did not happen until June. Better late than never. During my week at the beach without the company of grandchildren, I did a......

Green Piggy Bank on top of a calculator

When my eldest granddaughter was about 4 years old we were exploring the sanctuary of the church I was serving, and she said, “Let’s play church!” I said OK and she directed me to the first pew. “You be the people.” She said. Again, I agreed. I sat down, and she approached the altar. Facing the altar, she chanted, “La, La, La, La, La, La.” Then she turned to me, held her hands out in front of her, and said, “Gimme money.” And that comes close to describing what many people think......
