Weekly Moment with Pastor Susan
Wednesday evening, the council met in a specially called meeting to discuss expanding our worship capacity (a move to Phase 2). We are aware that the numbers are going up in Knox County and we are watching the benchmarks carefully, but based on the survey responses so far we have agreed that it is time to begin welcoming up to 50 people in worship on a Sunday morning. We will begin that experiment on October 25, Reformation Sunday.
The Five Core Actions will be required for safety (stay home if you feel feverish or otherwise sick; wash hands frequently with soap and water, use hand sanitizer when that’s not available; face coverings (nose and mouth) must be worn; Keep physical distance of at least 6 ft. from anyone outside your household; wipe down surfaces you touch with disinfecting wipes.) We will send out more complete instructions so that you will not be surprised when you arrive that morning. We want to provide for our spiritual needs as well as physical needs. We celebrate that so many of you value worship with our community.
We will continue to collect the surveys through Saturday and appreciate that so many have already submitted them. We hope everyone will participate in the town hall meeting this Sunday to share your thoughts and suggestions, and to get a more complete picture of how the decision was made. Your input is important to us, especially as we continue to navigate uncharted waters. All who feel safe enough and deeply desire to participate in corporate worship at Messiah, please watch your email for a couple of opportunities to help get it going (how might you volunteer?) and for a sign up (reservations) as we will need to ensure we have less than 51 people present for this first experiment. Depending on the interest and participation, as well as conditions in our community, we will make necessary changes as we go along, thoughtfully, and with guidance of county and national experts.
I have heard the call for more information from me and the Covid team, so I am exploring ways to share information as we get it without filling your mailboxes (or the enews) with more information than you want to read. I’ll welcome your suggestions for how to make that happen as well.
In joyful gratitude for the abundance of God’s blessings, among which are each one of you!
